Help Before You Set Up
We understand that gathering materials and explaining rules to a group can feel daunting. Here are clear answers to the most common questions our studio receives regarding holiday activity setups.
Do I need specific game boards?
No, our activities rely entirely on household items, blank paper, cardboard, and simple wooden pieces you likely already own.
How do I handle varying ages in one group?
Check the 'Adaptations' section on each page. We recommend removing timers and transitioning competitive mechanics into collaborative goals to level the field.
What if the living space is very small?
Our tabletop games are designed to fit on a single tray, keeping the footprint minimal. Avoid the movement-based games if floor space is restricted by trees or presents.
Is it acceptable to change rules mid-game?
Absolutely. If a rule is causing frustration, pause the activity quietly and state a new rule. The goal is engagement, not strict adherence to instructions.
How long should these activities last?
Plan for 15 to 30 minutes of active play. The preparation and making phases can take longer, but active play should end before participants lose interest.
What if someone does not want to play?
Never force participation. Leave space for a quieter turn by allowing them to observe, keep score, or manage the materials bowl.
Can these be used outside of Christmas?
Yes, the underlying mechanics (memory, alignment, target toss) are universal. Simply swap the holiday-themed objects for everyday items.
Where can I find more rule variations?
We draw heavy inspiration from standard compendiums like Hoyle's Rules of Games. Simplifying classic mechanics is a great way to invent your own variations.
